VOLUME 02 - 11.22 - On Adrienne Kennedy
Our second volume is dedicated to playwright Adrienne Kennedy.
In 2016, Signature Theater celebrated their 25th anniversary and there, for the first time, editor-in-chief Christopher Niquet got to see the words of Adrienne Kennedy take shape on the stage. He went back, and back again, the initial shock remaining after each performances. The nuances of her language unfolding and expending.
From essays, to poems, portraits or art portfolios as well as our first fashion spread this second volume aims to create a rounded portrait of a beloved American literary figure that has been active since the 1960s and whose work has inspired a number of major intellectuals and visuals artists alike. A long interview has been conducted by editor-in-chief Christopher Niquet, Mrs Kennedy herself has written a piece on America in 2022, and multiple collaborators like writers Joan Juliet Buck and Edwidge Danticat, artists Lynette Yiadom-Boakye and Eric N. Mack as well as photographer Bruce Weber have contributed to our pages to create a volume that is highly visual as well as rich in texts.
With this second volume of Study we wanted to share with you the incredibly deep and layered world of this groundbreaking thinker. Adrienne Kennedy’s work has over the past six decades been highly influential to many and her grand debut on Broadway this fall at the age of 91 with her play The Ohio State Murders is bound to reach and touch many more.
